Circular Economy & Resource Recovery

In this domain, we help clients turn waste and end-of-life products into value, implementing principles of the circular economy. Rather than the traditional “use and dispose” approach, we develop systems for reusing, recycling, and repurposing materials. This includes e-waste (electronic waste) management, battery recycling programs, and designing products or processes with recyclability in mind.

Our services aim to minimize what gets sent to landfills and maximize the lifespan and reuse of materials – an approach that not only benefits the environment but can also create
new revenue streams and jobs. (The potential is huge – moving to a circular economy is seen as a billion-dollar opportunity for Africa’s development)

Services Offered:

– E-Waste Collection and Recycling: Programs to safely collect, dismantle, and
recycle electronic waste (old computers, batteries, solar panels, etc.). We set up
processes with certified recycling partners to extract valuable materials (metals,
plastics) and dispose of hazardous components responsibly.

– Battery Refurbishment and Swap Services: We give heavy-use items like inverter and EV batteries a second life. Our team can evaluate used batteries and refurbish or recondition them for secondary applications, or ensure proper recycling of spent batteries (recovering lead, lithium, etc.)

– Product Life Extension Consulting: Advising manufacturers and businesses on how to redesign products or supply chains for circularity – e.g. modular designs that are easier to repair or upgrade, using recycled materials in new production, or setting up “take-back” schemes for old products.

– Waste-to-Resource Initiatives: Identifying ways to convert waste streams into useful inputs. For example, turning agricultural waste into bioenergy, using plastic waste in building materials, or upcycling industrial scraps. We conduct feasibility studies and pilot projects to kickstart these initiatives.

– Circular Economy Training & Workshops: We offer workshops for organizations
and communities to educate and engage stakeholders on circular principles. This includes training in sorting waste, maintaining equipment for longevity, and creative reuse techniques at the community level.

What Makes Our Approach Special:

We operate at the intersection of innovation and practicality. Our team keeps abreast of the latest circular economy innovations globally, but we filter those through local practicality. That means we favor solutions that can work in Africa’s infrastructure-light contexts – for example, manual disassembly of e-waste where high-tech recycling plants are not available, creating local jobs in the process. We also collaborate with a network of partners (from informal recyclers to international processors) to ensure every bit of waste finds its best use. Our approach often uncovers hidden value: clients are frequently surprised that what they considered “trash” can actually become an input for another process or even a new business model. By focusing on material recovery, we not only help the environment but also reduce costs for our clients (through recycling and resale of materials) and support community enterprises. Ultimately, we see waste as just a resource in the wrong place, and we’re passionate about reimagining waste as wealth for African communities.

Testimonial:

: “Thanks to RSCION Tech, our telecom company now has a clear system for handling electronic waste. They helped us set up an e-waste recycling program – we’ve recycled thousands of old devices instead of dumping them. Better yet, we recouped value from recovered materials. It’s been great for our corporate responsibility goals and even improved our bottom line slightly. Win-win!” – Doreen M., Sustainability Director, Pan-African Telecom Firm
